How the Ford AdBlue system works
Covers: Transit, Transit Custom, Ranger and EcoBlue-engined vans.
Ford's 2.0 EcoBlue Transit and Transit Custom use a heated AdBlue tank module, a single dosing injector ahead of the SCR catalyst and NOx sensors before and after it. The powertrain ECU manages the 'AdBlue system malfunction — service required' countdown.
Common Ford AdBlue faults we see first
- "AdBlue system malfunction — service required" with a mileage countdown
- P20EE SCR efficiency and P20E8 reductant pressure faults
- Tank module heater and level sender failures
- Crystallised injectors after short-run, stop-start use
What we check before quoting
We read the PCM, confirm calibration and check whether the van has open recalls or updates that might fix the underlying fault for road use.
Send us the registration and the exact dashboard message or fault code by WhatsApp. We confirm the ECU type and whether the job is suitable before arranging a visit.
Who this is for
Common off-road Ford work includes Rangers used on farms and estates, Transits converted to motorsport support and vans prepared for export.
Important — legal position
Disabling or removing a working emissions control system on a vehicle used on UK public roads is not lawful and will fail an MOT. This service is only for vehicles used off-road, in competition, on private land or exported. Road-registered vehicles in UK use get diagnosis and repair instead.
